Beauty Community: Scouting New York Fashion Week 2012 Trends

As many of you know, I just returned from two weeks in New York City, doing press for the premiere of RHOC, Watch What Happens Live with Andy, and working on my new collection of pink handbags and accessories! It was so fun, but so freaking busy!

I also happened to be there for Fall 2012 New York Fashion Week. I hosted some events and attended a few shows, including two of my faves, Bebe and Malan Breton. The shows are amazing - you can tell there’s a lot of hard work that goes into each production.

The designers previewed so many great new designs, and a lot of pretty clothes and accessories! It’s hard to decide what trend to embrace, but here’s what I think will be hot for fall:

From bright red lips to bright red clothing, red seems to be the new black for the season. Seen on runways from Calvin Klein to Donna Karan to Michael Kors, can't go wrong with sporting something bold colors and red when Fall comes around.

There were a lot of military elements from the designers, including Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Tommy Hilfiger, and Victoria Beckham. The browns and deep olive greens, belted jackets, leather pencil skirts, and knee high boots looked so sophisticated and chic.

Fur and Feather Accents
Furry jacket sleeves and furry collars were plentiful, as well as feather skirts. I think it will be a strong trend since Carolina Herrera, Oscar de la Renta, and Prabal Gurung all had those elements in their collection. Of course, I always prefer faux fur, and I’m happy to hear there will be plenty of options to choose from.

Blanket Coats
Fashion is fashion, but comfort is still high on my list! Clearly, a lot of designers (including Rag & Bone and Alice + Olivia) know what I mean because blanket coats seem to be the rage for Fall. The coats are perfect for someone like me who loves to snuggle.

Statement Hats
Several designers, including Jason Wu, Anna Sui, and Marc Jacobs all previewed unique statement hats, even ones you accessorize with formal wear. And if you can't tell, I love hats! Pictured above is Slade and me at Malan Breton Fantome Fall show.

Are you keeping up with Fashion Week? Who's your favorite designer?

Interview: Getting Real with Gretchen Rossi on fabfitfun

Hi Everyone! Happy Friday! I wanted to share the interview I just did with FabFitFun, which is a great site in partnership with beautiful E! News host, Giuliana Rancic. I am a huge fan of the site –it gives readers smart, simple steps to becoming your most fabulous self!   Here's a snippet of my interview with fabfitfun:

What can we expect to see in the next season of

Well for my story, you will see me continuing to build my fashion and beauty empires! I just love these spaces and my lines continue to grow. You’ll see a little bit more of my music career including working with the Pussycat Dolls. Slade produces and performs in a comedy show and I am asked to host. You will also see a lot of the struggles and issues Slade and I continue to work through as a couple while still keeping the undying and loyal love we have for one another.

Obviously, you have an amazing body. What is your typical workout regimen?
Well again thank you for such a sweet compliment. I travel so much with my companies that I barely get time to work out anymore so I have to improvise. I use my own bodyweight to do floor exercises, I travel with workout rubber bands and use hotel furniture to do my routines. I sometimes use a lamp to do bicep curls! It sounds funny, but it works. I eat pretty well too, which is about 60% of staying in shape if you ask me. I eat everything I want, just little bits of everything and I eat every few hours…literally every two to three hours I will eat a little something. It really has changed my metabolism for the better

Any advice for women who want to start their own business?

Yes! Go for it! Life is too short to have any regrets. There are loans and many free business seminars to help you get educated and started. You have to first create a sound business plan with a clear direction of your goals and plans. Remember to always have good people around you who you can trust when involving them in your business dealings.

Beauty Community Tip of the Week: Prevent Split Ends!

I get a lot of questions about how I style and maintain my hair, especially how to get rid of split ends. I hate them, too, but split ends are actually a subtle way for your hair strands to yell at you!

Unfortunately, over-styling with curling irons, rollers, blow-dryers, and other heated products make your hair more susceptible to split ends.  Add rubber band usage, or using the wrong kind of brush, and you’ll likely reap hair havoc. What’s worse, you’re even more susceptible if your hair is shoulder-length or longer, because as hair grows (and ages), it loses its ability to hold moisture and it gets brittle, breaks, and splits.

So, if you want to keep your hair healthy in the future, make sure you're protecting it from heat styling with a good leave-in conditioner like Enjoy’s Leave-in Conditioner. Apply the conditioner on wet hair, and use a comb instead of a brush to blend through (a comb is gentler on your wet hair).

I also like HBL’s Shine & Seal System. Made with special high-grade silicone and silica blends, it also has Argan Oil, and is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids, so it’s great for locking in moisture and improving shine and luster. It protects, shines and seals strands for a smooth, high-gloss finish, and eliminates frizz and locks in moisture all while blocking out humidity. If you use it in conjunction with the HBL Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner, it really works wonders for bringing in the moisture! A good tip I always do is to rinse with cool water to seal the hair's outer layer.

Finally, make sure you visit your hair stylist on a regular basis (every six weeks is the recommendation). It really adds to hair health!
