Beauty Community Tip of the Week: BB Cream the Miracle Product
Thanks to one of my fans who suggested that BB Cream is one of her makeup essentials, I wanted to do some research to find out more about it! Apparently, BB Cream, which stands for Blemish Balm or Beauty Balm Cream, is one of Asia’s hottest beauty products, and is quickly becoming a must-have skin product worldwide. The formula is based on a product developed by a German derm, and due to the cream’s skin-regenerating properties, dermatologists have traditionally recommended its use for soothing skin and healing scars caused by laser skin surgery. But when a famous South Korean actress credited BB Cream for her flawless complexion in 2005, the BB craze started spreading like wildfire, going to Japan, China, South East Asia, and now Europe and the USA.
Why? Because not only does it soothe skin, but BB Cream solves a bunch of multiple skin issues, is perfect for all skin types, and has the advantages of both skin care and makeup combining ingredients with moisturizer, primer, foundation, and SPF to improve the skin’s condition and evens out the skin tone while providing coverage for dark spots and other blemishes.
It produces a very natural “no makeup look” but provides coverage like a foundation or tinted moisturizer. Since it is not as thick as foundation, it does not clog pores so it’s great for those with sensitive and acne-prone skin. Plus, some variations contain anti-wrinkle and skin-lightening benefits.
It sounds like an all-around miracle cream, right? I can’t wait to get my hands on some!
Who has tried it and which brand(s) do you like best?
xoxoxo Gretchen Christine

I have yet to find a BB cream that works as well as the ones from Korea. I use Holika Holika. It is inexpensive and has nice coverage without settling into fine liines.
Jane Iredale- clients love it- but it's too much for me. Love using the primer all by itself (strange I know) it gives me a great glow!
I have tried several different brands. On the higher end I like the Too Faced Beauty Balm, & for drugstore I like Garnier.
It's not that great, especially on it's own. And the coverage is not good. It's basically a tinted moisturizer but it's supposed to be like a primer as well for makeup over it. I like it for mineral powder like the Laura Mercier one on top for coverage.
I have done alot of research as well. I have a Colorscience which is a all in one powder/foundation. But I LOVE BB creams way better. More coverage and your skin looks flawless. I have rosacea and have to watch what I put on my face. Two ingredients that I look for in the brand are caffine, which reduces redness in your face and Sodium Hyaluronate. The brand I like is Smashbox Camera Ready as it has both. I like Boscia and Clinique and Jane Iredale as they have those ingredients too. All have different pigments or colors so you have to go by your own skin type. Smashbox has 5 shades and matched my skin the best. Good luck and I know you will love them.
I was introduced to BB cream by one of my SA's at Neimans back in April, she was raving on and on about it. I bought the Dior BB cream and love it. I am a total product junkie (just that transaction cost me $900) but I am pretty persnickety and the Dior did not disappoint.
Love L'oreal BB cream....sunscreen, mousturizer, primer, foundation and evens skin tone. This and some mascara and out the door!
I swear by Smashbox Camera Ready! I've been using it for a year and absolutely cannot leave the house without it! I have blonde hair, blue eyes with olive skin, and I started with the Light color. But I was thrilled when they came out with a light-medium just in time for summer. It makes your skin look amazing, even in sunlight!
I love it!! The Clinique one! My mom and aunties who are Japanese introduced it to me... Now i have flawless Korean skin!!:) stacy
I love BB cream. I use Jane Iredale. Its amazing stuff!
The Smashbox version is killer!! My must have!
So excited for your article. I myself have been wondering about the bb cream craze. My skin is very sensitive and I have been on a Makeup fast for 3 weeks. I am curious as to which brand is the best. Cant wait for peoples comments.
How does it match to your own skin tone? Is it like foundation you have to find one that matches your own skin tone?
Garnier Skin Renew BB Cream is awesome for the price!
I just purchased Dr. Jart+ BB creme...arrives on Friday..can not wait!
I love Missha's BB Creams the best and I have tried almost everyone except Vichy which is next on my list. MIssha is the Korean brand and it does better on my skin than the American companies have, so far.
LOVE IT! I've tried Garnier and Clinique so far. Prior I used tinted moisturizer by Estee Lauder but I like the add'l coverage. I can put it on in the AM to look less scary for my workouts!
I have been using BB creams & love them. Garnier & Loreal have a good one that is tinted & contains a sunblock. Loreal also has an untinted one but it doesn't have sunblock. I put it on, then just a light coat of powder with some bronzer & love the look! I did not care for the Maybelline one, too thick. They give you a nice natural look!
Hi Gretchen! I've been using Garnier BB Cream in Med/Dark since March and overall am loving it! It has great coverage without looking like you're wearing foundation, and leaves your skin with a beautiful moisturized glow! Because it is so moisturizing, people with excessively oily skin might not like this particular brand. My skin is true combination, so if I'm wearing the BB Cream, I just skip any other kind of moisturizer! I'm sure it would be helpful if they had a wider range of colors, but the Med/Dark works just fine for me. I have darker olive skin anyway, but also because I try to use sunscreen on my face regularly, it ends up lighter than the rest of my skin- so once I use the BB Cream everything matches up! I've tested a few other BB's on the back of my hand but nothing has the creamy coverage and the moisturizing glow without looking like makeup as Garnier! I'd highly recommend! Love you! xo
I use smash box BB cream.. I really like it. I use the one with tint in it so I can get away without wearing foundation someways.. Makes my skin look natural but still have a little coverage.
